Purchase products featuring the amphisbaena at our store.

The amphisbaena is a creature that was popular in medieval beastiaries but goes back centuries further. It was thought to be a snake with a head a at either end. In the middle ages it was frequently depicted half-black, half-white, and while it was shown locked in combat with itself, the light half always won out over the dark. In this manner it showed that good will always triumph over evil. This truth is underscored by the passage from 1John. The eight-pointed cross is a symbol of the Beatitudes which show us the ultimate victory of the faithful.
